Floral

Both artists adore flowers and are keen gardeners. This on-going series of paintings simply reflects this love, and offers the opportunity to celebrate, and the desire to do justice to  pure colour, tight drawing and rigorous composition.

The flowers are seen close-up, in sharp focus, and clearly delineated by their articulated surfaces and contours. Like a mosaic or stained glass, they are comprised of individual 'pieces of colour' each observed, drawn, synthesised and anchored in a tight two-dimensional framework, which appears three-dimensional only when and because the colour/tones cohere. They are not photo-realist as they may appear.

The original paintings are small to medium sized and take quite a long time, although there is one in progress that is 2.5 x 2 metres in size. Digital prints on Hahnemühle paper are available from our shop.
