What is Moorland Productions contemporary art?

Welcome to our contemporary art blog!

We are a creative duo, Seetha A (based in London) & Kenneth Hay (based in Occitanie SW France), who started collaborating artistically in 1993, making our first public appearance in a show called "Surface Tension" in Rotherham, UK in 1994. At that time, our studio was on Moorland Road, Leeds, UK, so everything we created there became a 'moorland production'. We started with film and multimedia productions, digital prints and other works, but have always also painted, made photographs, screenprinted and made other works. We continue to work across the expanded field of contemporary art practice. Working together demands a particular methodology. It can be challenging but also leads to insights and creations of a broader and different type than each artist might produce on their own. Essentially our belief is that 'two heads are better than one'. Each artist has their own skills, history and culture and each can contribute in different ways.

In 2023 we celebrated thirty years of collaboration with a retrospective exhibition at the Meyer Filho Institute, Florianópolis, Brazil.

The show featured 8 different projects spanning our 30-year collaboration. Each project represents one type of work, each following one specific theme. Our work has evolved this way over time: we create distinct bodies of work, in series, with each series exploring a particular theme and developing a particular style or range of content accordingly.

Sometimes (quite often) these themes developed through are paintings or prints, but they could also develop into videos, photographs, installation sound, or whatever best suits the theme.

We exhibit very widely internationally - currently with about 20 exhibitions per year, most recently in Köln, Paris, Mecklenberg and Zug, and you can also explore our on-line shop and buy directly from there.
